Self Stigma
doesn't come from an arm-badge that warns,
Keep Calm, I Have Parkinson's.
It comes from not telling,
avoiding the sideways glance.
Or not doing, shunning embarrassment.
Judging others lest we be found out.
Are we dishonest not to reveal
What makes our crooked smile?
Come on. Take a chance.
But be careful.
Wearing Parkinson's on our sleeves
isn't a yellow star event
until the Medical Aid in Dying squad
sweeps us into death's ascent.
