At some point during those salad days between my college graduation and getting married, I attended a charity auction event for a local school where I won croquet lessons for four.

But seriously, dealing with the differences in healthcare protocols between the different regions in the US, especially in the experiences that I had with my son's hemophilia treatment, has been frustrating and at times borderline lethal. Sometimes the only choice is to do what is necessary. The problem with the US health care system originated in WW2 when Congress changed the tax law allowing employers to deduct from their corporate taxes the cost of employee health insurance premiums paid by the employer. This change in law invited private insurance into the health care process, akin to inviting a wolf into the sheep pen. Today, insurance providers and their lobbyists stand in the way of any fundamental reform to the US health care system. On a personal level, the insurance company that I use will often refuse to cover the cost of drugs prescribed by my neurologist. The wolf acts as gatekeeper. Very frustrating . . .
